Breakfast Scones

the view from my office window

I spent this morning doing what I do every morning - looking for freelance work. I knew when I moved it would be hard to find work, but I didn't think I would get this bored. I thought I'd have time for blogging, reading, exercising, cooking, and relaxing. Instead I feel bored. I'm not a workaholic, but I like feeling productive.

I decided that any day I don't apply for any jobs I'll exercise. I just have to start forcing myself to do it. I have about 30 pounds to lose (wow that seems like a big number), but I'm pretty comfortable watching reruns of Ally McBeal and eating scones. I just absolutely hate exercise.

Scones and coffee for breakfast.

These ginger-pecan scones were just OK. I've been trying to eat seasonally, and this recipe came from an April Bon Appetit, but the ginger and pecan flavors seemed too wintery for me. Here it is humid and warm and doesn't feel wintery at all. But it was a nice breakfast this morning.

The only changes I made to the recipe were that I chopped up the crystallized ginger and the pecan pieces. I wanted the flavors to blend in more. I also used half whole wheat flour.
