Top Five Thursdays: Music Memories

One of the blogs I follow does Top Five Thursdays every week. This week she is linking up everyone else who participates. The list is of songs that take you back. Everyone has those songs that bring back memories when you hear them. This is my list (in no particular order) of five songs that always remind me of great moments in my life.


5. Baby Got Back  by Sir Mix-a-Lot
My mom, sister, and I used to sing this song in the car together with the music up all the way. At the age of 3, my brother used to sing/hum the lyrics with us. When we go out dancing together, my mom always asks the DJ to play it. The song always reminds me of having fun with my family.

4. Country Roads by John Denver

This song takes me back to summers working at a coffee shop with my best friend. We'd listen to the classic country station on yahoo music and this song would always come on. 

3. Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners

One spring my sister, dad, and I went to Vero Beach, Florida to visit my aunt and uncle. At nights we'd grab coffee after everyone else went to sleep because we were on California time, and we'd drive around listening to a CD full of ska and punk music my sister had brought. This song was on that CD. That spring break I must have listened to it 25 times. 

2. We Built this City by Starship

A few days after HB and I met, we went hiking in Big Sur. On the drive down there, I kept trying to find music to listen to, but we have such different tastes that it was hard. I was nervous, because I really liked him, and wanted to pick something "cool." This song came on (hardly cool) and it turned out we both liked it, and sang along. It was then I realized that I'd found someone who was willing to be just as nerdy as I was, and wouldn't judge me for my bad taste in music.

1. Don't Stop Believin' by Journey

This song is a classic. This is the type of song that when it comes on, people sing along, no matter where you are. So many great nights back home with friends involved this song. 

There are so many other songs that take me back to great moments in my life, but these are just a few :).
