Earthquake in VA

One of the last things I expected today was for there to be an earthquake in Virginia this afternoon. When it first hit I thought someone was bombing the building, or a meteor had hit. When I finally realized that it was an earthquake, and a pretty big one at that, I remembered all my elementary school earthquake training, threw myself to the floor, and covered up my neck. My co-workers thought I was nuts, but hey, I wasn't about to get hit by anything falling on my head.

The building structures here are different, and not built for that kind of movement. I could hear the different parts of the building moving around. Things were damaged hundreds of miles away.

I must say, I enjoyed it. I don't like the damage and injuries earthquakes result in. I know that they can be devastating. But they are also a little reminder of home. Sometimes I feel so totally out of place here in Central Virginia. I experience culture shock on a regular basis. The food, people, air, water, culture, etc. are all so different. It was just a little reminder of something more familiar.
